I've been low-key in love with Venice ever since I played the iconic Venice level in Tomb Raider II as a kid: jumping rooftops, dodging bullets and the pixelated canals. So whenever I get the chance to visit the real thing, I'm all in. I had previously only shot with ORWO’s other color film, the NC500, and I was pretty happy with the results — desaturated tones, cinematic vibes, and a subtle vintage flair. For this late November trip to Venice, I had a roll of NC400 in my fridge and thought it would be the perfect match for a cold, humid, foggy weekend. At first, I was honestly very disappointed with the results. Some shots look seriously underexposed — despite rating the film at 320 ISO instead of 400, exactly to avoid that. The grain is very noticeable, and the contrast is pretty strong, giving the photos a gritty look that may or may not be your thing. Not sure if the issue was my fault, the lab’s, or the film itself. Some frames are just weird — like the first photo, where the sky decided to split in two like a Photoshop demo gone rogue 🥹 Maybe it was Bezos’s aura retroactively messing with the film: that the man’s energy was already hovering over the lagoon ✨
