Rummu Quarry was opened in 1938 to mine limestone, also called Vasalemma marble. The mining was done using prison labor, and the leftover mining material formed the big hill you see behind the building. In the 1990s, the quarry filled with water very quickly, covering buildings, trees, and machines, and today it’s a popular place for swimming, diving, and exploring.
