Banana Basics

This DIGITAL snap shows the basic building blocks used to create this banana album: a homemade filter made by printing a copy of the famous Andy Warhol banana onto transparent printer film that I then cut to size and placed inside the 4.2x4.2cm mask that fits into the back of the Diana F+, plus a DIY 'splitzer' I made by cutting a half-moon shape out of a 38mm Diana lens cap. The original concept for this album was to create one image to represent each of the 11 songs on the classic Velvet Underground album (i.e. Femme Fatale, Venus in Furs, Heroin, etc.), which coulda, mighta, oughta, shoulda, woulda been epic, but I soon realised it was gonna be too difficult to find all the necessary props, models, locations, etc., so I gave up and shot this less-than-epic album instead. Sorry, guys...! ;-)

Nice idea – I’m gonna try this, too. And you have the Tori-Amos-Diana as well!

Great idea again. You can make endless masks this way. I was going to do it the hard way: shooting slides (not crossing them) and then use a slide as mask. You just made my life easier ! !

@fermea and @gauthierdumonde: Thanks! I have to confess, though, that the printed mask idea is not mine - I learned it from a tipster by @sixsixty here: www.lomography.fr/magazine/tipster/2012/07/09/diy-rainbow-p… One lesson I learned from my first try is to print much stronger colours next time, as the yellow in this one was too weak to really have an impact. We live to learn, eh...?

P.S. I was hoping to end this album with a 'Banana Boobs' shot, but my wife refused to pose for it. If you happen to have a nice pair to volunteer for a re-shoot, you're welcome to PM me...! ;-)

Great idea. Love it. I think you should still try and shoot your original concept idea. We must have the same ideas because I have a list of themes to shoot at some point in my life and one theme was the same but with The Wedding Present's - Seamonsters album.

@weleasewoger72: Cheers! Yeah, I hope I get around to doing a rock album concept of some kind eventually, and hope to see your Seamonsters interpretation sometime too! (I'm not familiar with The Wedding Present, but will look into it...) @grazie @lomonina @sweetyyydreams: Speaking of rock, you guys ... yep ... you ROCk!!! :-) Thanks all.
