Successful (first) development

Hello my fellow lomographers.. So I’ve been having horrible luck with developing my photos (I’m new at c41 developing), only around 4 photos would actually turn out the rest of the frames were blank for each 5 rolls I developed. I got a TON of help from you guys on here & some on Twitter about troubleshooting. Just wish to say thanks and I appreciate all of your guys knowledgeable guesses as to what may have went wrong. Well turns out that my SLR was the problem this entire time!!!!! RIP to my Nikon EM. These pictures were taken with a Nikon FE, and 22/24 frames actually turned out when developed, 🥳 wohoo. Just uploading the ones I found “worthy” to show on here from the test roll. Cheers!

Great to hear! For future reference if you develop a roll that comes out with blank pictures, but the edge code on the film is consistently ok even on the blanks, then the issue was likely in camera. If there's blank spots on the film including no edge code showing up then the issue was definitely during developing

@jbasco Thank you once again, for your helpful insights and advice! Much appreciated. Why do you think that my camera will only capture some frames? They’re always in a random order too.

@35mm_marlena I don't have a definite answer for you, but I'd imagine it must be a shutter related issue. First thing I'd try would be shooting it empty with the back open and see if the shutter's firing correctly every time and also at different speeds when you change the aperture on the lens. If something seems wrong with the shutter speeds I'd try putting a fresh battery(s) in it and see if anything changes, I just read that if you attempt to shoot it at auto without a battery it always shoots at about 1/1000. If the shutter is firing every time and the shutter speeds are clearly changing along with the aperture, you could compare the EM's meter with the FE's and see if they seem too be consistently about right, if the EM's meter is way off sometimes that could mess up your exposures. If it turns out to probably be a meter related issue I'd just use it on M90 mode and use an external meter or sunny16 it.
Hopefully it doesn't come down to that option, but as long as it's firing consistently at M90 and you're still able to set your aperture manually you shouldn't be losing any frames.
