Tararua District

Eketahuna Rail Station. Asmall town which was settled by Scandinavians in 1860's. Eketahuna is a common name check shorthand reference to any small town that is situated "in the sticks." In the 40 Mile Bush, Norwegians renamed it "Mellenskov" middle of the forest. Later it reverted to its Maori place name Eketahuna meaning, River sand bank where canoes were beached
