1.Tell us about yourself. What do you do for a living? What are your interests?

Hello. My name is Andaru Waskito, but since my dad loves jazz so much, I was called Bebop since the day I was born. “Bebop” is a style of jazz characterized by fast tempo, instrumental virtuosity and improvisation based on the combination of harmonic structure and melody. So please call me Bebop as well.

I am currently studying art, focusing in textile design. But sometimes I also do graphic design. Oh, and now I’m trying to build my own clothing brand.

Besides Lomography, my interests lie of course in music. I play the ukulele, or the guitar, almost everyday. Sometimes I sing along with my sister playing random songs. I love sports – I’ve played basketball since I was 10 years old. And I watch movies like crazy! Actually my deepest wish is to be an actor! Wish me luck!

2.How long have you been a Lomographer and how did you find out about the Community?

I discovered Lomography at a local festival in my hometown, Bandung. I saw a booth full of Lomography cameras and such a colorful wall. I wanted one of those, but it wasn’t my top wish-list at that time (sorry Lomography) because I thought I could satisfy my photographic desire with just my mobile phone. After that festival, my friend David always talked about Lomography with me. He told me about the community and explained each camera’s speciality to me.
Then finally I got myself a Lomography camera, which was a La Sardina Camera & Flash – El Capitan, in the Winter of 2011.

3. Can you share your love story with your La Sardina with us?

Haha, it was so cheesy. I wrote an article, Tracing My Lomo Beginnings: From a Broken Heart to the Sweetest La Sardina Escape of it! I was on a project , doing the graphic design for a café called SugaRush. But as a common teen, I got a problem with my love story. When my daily schedule suddenly changed after the broke-up, I tried to do something that I haven’t done before. Then I remembered Lomography. So I decided to use my commission from the project to buy a camera. I hesitated deciding between the Diana F+ and the La Sardina. After I did a dance with my thoughts, I chose the La Sardina! And yes, my decision was right! The La Sardina has surely taken a place in my life since then.

4. What’s one quality you wish you had?

I wish I can influence other people with my talent, my passion, or my hobbies. That will make me feel like what I do is being appreciated. And that’s the best feeling, ever.

5. You’ve used “my life is a moving picture” to introduce yourself at your LomoHome. Can you tell us a bit about your life in your city and Indonesia?

That quote actually is taken from a Youtube artist’s song. It’s “Here, Tonight” by AJ Rafael. And those words just fit me well because I always see my life as moving memories that I shouldn’t forget.

I was born and raised in Bandung, the capital city of the province West Java, Indonesia. Famous as a multicultural nation, full of exotic tropical nature – Indonesia surely shows the beauty of Asia. Many of you may know Bali as an Indonesian tourism spot, but here I tell you, Bandung is obviously one hell of a tourism spot as well! Haha.

Bandung is a nice city with a high ratio of rain. Located about 1 hour by plane or 3 hours by car from the capital city of Indonesia – Jakarta. It’s famous for its mountain-viewed cafes or restaurants, factory outlets, and people with high sense of Art!

I usually hang out at the cafes with my friends, or take a walk at the mall. But when I get the feeling to snap some photos, I usually go to Bandung’s historical street, where the architecture is still in Dutch style, or sometimes I go to north Bandung, where there are a lot of little forests and waterfalls.

I am grateful I live in this beautiful city, I hope you can visit Bandung, and experience my story too. Maybe we can arrange a meet up or something else!

6. What do portraits of your friends mean to you? Can you share some stories of you and your friends with us?

I think Lomography is all about capturing memories and it is part of my life. I always imagine a few years from now I open my old albums and see pictures of me and my friends, reminisce about it, and maybe laugh it off. That’s why it means a lot for me.
Like Lomography, I don’t know how my life would be without me friends beside me. And the best LomoWalk is without doubt if you are on it with your friends!

7. Can you share your experiences of light painting with your Fisheye camera?

Oh I had so much fun at that time! I used little lamps that are usually used for motorbike modification. The light will turn on if it’s shook. I turned off the light in my room and asked my friend to pose while she shook those little lamps. I absolutely had no idea how results would turn out. Amazingly, the results are so great! I couldn’t stop laughing at the first time I saw it!

Playing with lights and the Fisheye is really fun and gets even more so when I add some colorsplash from the Ringflash.

8. Kindly share with us your most loved photo.

This is hard to answer. But I think I will answer with this picture. Even though the scanning is not perfect, for me this photo always reminds me about how we should care for other people, especially the people we love. Gifts are not the only thing we are able to give.

9. Any future plans or Tips with your La Sardina?

A lot of film swaps! I am still working on it, but doing film swaps are so exciting! And you can get a lot of new friends from all over the world.

I also want to do my own DIY La Sardina. I’ll let you know if it turns out well!
