LomoGuru of the Week: Renenob

Being a college lecturer himself, Rene has every right enough to be called a guru! This week, we get to learn more and be enlightened by his wisdom regarding the practical applications of camera called the Lomo LC-A+ and how it became a witness to his ever-fleeting moments in life!

Share to us your most memorable experience in the Lomographic Community.

I really could not point out a single experience that stands out as most memorable, but perhaps a significant one would be how some of my articles were warmly received by members of the community; most notably tipster articles I wrote. With some of them exceeding 100 likes, I am glad that I seem to contribute to the pool of analogue knowledge made available for lomographers. I do not know if this has something to do with the fact that I am a teacher by profession.

I don’t know if this counts as an experience in the context of the Lomographic Community, but my participation in the Whilst We Wait Project, that was spearheaded by basterda is something which I am truly proud of as well.

Have you actually met people in the Community that you now consider as close friends? If yes, name at least one of them.

It’s funny how I have been a lomographer for 4 years, and yet, it was not until recently (about a year ago) that I actually met fellow analogue enthusiasts in the flesh. Since I generally do not travel abroad, I have only met community members based here in the Philippines. Most of them are members of a local group called Shutter Revolution, while some, I have met during meetings for the Whilst We Wait Project. I have also met the guys from Lomography Manila Team. Still, I cannot say that I know them as intimately as I wish to, but I do have a lot of correspondence with icuresick and boobert. Shout outs to the rest of Shutter Revolution!

Do you think you’ll still be taking Lomographs in the next 5 years? Why?

I do hope so. I have been doing this for 4 years, and I don’t see any signs of slowing down. As for the why question, I have actually asked myself such now and then. The only reason I could find is the same reason why others endlessly take photos with their camera phones or their digital cameras; because I would like to hold on to something that is fleeting. This is the next best thing to a time machine. The only difference is, I do so using analogue technology. And if I will be asked, “why analogue?”, my snappy answer would be, “why not?”

What is your favorite Lomo camera and why? Do you have any memorable experiences while using this camera?

The Lomo LC-A+ is such a versatile camera. With minor add-ons, you can really do a lot with the LC-A+: doubles, macro, SIO12 setting , among others.

My most significant lomograph to date, that of a portrait of my wife, was taken using this camera. I practically bring it everywhere.

Is there any advice you can give to new analogue shooters?

Do not hold yourself back, go out and shoot, shoot a lot, be patient, have fun, savor the good ones and learn from them, stare at the not-so-good ones and learn from them. Whatever you learn: a technique, an experience, or a revelation, share them to others.

They are the ones whose passion transcends not only by what they do and say, but also with what they see and capture with their film cameras. And with such attributes aforementioned, they are what we call LomoGurus!
