I tried the Ars-Imago Monobath chemical that allows you to develop and fix the negatives with only one bath of 8 minutes. The principle is that the developper is kind of very strong and acts for a couple of minutes before the fixer takes it over, giving some strong contrasted pictures. I tested it with the JCH StreetPan which is already a very contrasted b&w film, and the result have really a strong b&w contrast and a very nice grainy texture, I really like it!

I was strolling near Talad Bobae (a huge market) when I approached the tracks and saw three monks walking. I knew they would cross the tracks as the wat (buddhist temple/abbey) is located just behind the railroad. So I sped up, overtook them, crossed the tracks and pretended I was about to photograph the bridge in the background. Unfortunately, they walked a bit faster than I'd wished and even though I had time to focus on where they were likely to step, I had to resign myself to use the Program mode for the exposure. I hate this mode for the reason that this picture highlight: I had rated the film at 800 ISO and despite that, the camera chose a tiny aperture (causing the uselessly huge depth of field) and a slow shutter speed (apparently something around 1/30) which has given me a perfectly focused frame from the foreground to the horizon but with a blurry subject. They weren't running!

You have to start somewhere and for me this is it - my first serious attempt at analogue black and white photography! All photographs in this series, “Fumbling In The Dark[Room]”, have been produced using traditional techniques and printed meticulously by hand in my home darkroom.
I filled my hand luggage with two heavy, all metal mechanical cameras with a combined age of over 80 and as much black and white film as the bag could take. I hauled it from Scotland to #India, then from the south to the north.
I like collecting and using old cameras and lenses. I love the sense that someone before me has looked through the viewfinder and seen the world in their own way. There is something, maybe to do with their age or the precise mechanics that gives them a personality. They almost become my friends. I love the process of analogue photography and the time it takes to develop the film and produce an image... It is not instant.
So often in the streets of India I would take someone’s picture and straight away they would ask me to turn the camera around to see their photo on a digital screen. I disappointed so many children when all they saw was the leather and chrome back of my #Minolta. They couldn’t quite understand why the image was not instant.

I love the wood, but it is really hard to capture that special light. I have tons of woof photos, but most of them lack the magic I experience while being there, With this picture I managed to capture that special light quite well.
Klaus (@klawe) and I took a photo walk with Maria (@fisheyemary) on April 1st in the beautiful village of Lefkara where we stayed during our holiday.
