Agfa Super Solinette The Agfa Super Solinette appeared in the early 1950s as one of the more luxurious models in Agfa’s Solinette line. The Solinettes were 35mm folding cameras that could be collapsed into a compact form, and the “Super” version stood out as the top model. It featured a coupled rangefinder and a high-quality lens, making it a solid choice for the serious amateur photographer who wanted a reliable yet portable camera, without paying the premium of the more expensive Karat series. Technical Specifications Film format: 35mm, 24×36 mm exposures Production years: ca. 1953 – 1958 Lens: Agfa Solinar 50mm f/3.5 (four elements in three groups, Tessar-type) Shutter: Synchro-Compur, speeds from B, 1 sec to 1/500 sec Flash sync: X and M, with hot shoe and PC socket Focusing: manual, coupled rangefinder, 1m to infinity Aperture: f/3.5 – f/22 Body: metal with folding bellows, leather-covered Weight: approx. 550 g Variations The Super Solinette was sold in several versions, sometimes with slight differences in shutter or flash synchronization. In the United States, it was marketed as the Ansco Super Regent. Cheaper Solinette models often lacked a rangefinder and were equipped with simpler lenses such as the Apotar. Today, the Super Solinette is no longer a common find. Its folding mechanism—and especially the bellows—are prone to wear after seventy years. The focusing ring can also stiffen due to dried grease. Still, it remains a favorite among collectors and shooters, thanks to the Solinar lens that delivers sharp and contrast-rich images. The “Super” designation refers to the built-in coupled rangefinder, a luxury feature at the time. The camera used the popular EV system: exposure values could easily be set by linking shutter speed and aperture. The Solinar lens is renowned for its characterful rendering: sharp in the center, with a smooth fall-off toward the edges. The folding design made the camera relatively compact to carry, though its metal construction and shutter unit give it a solid, weighty feel in use. #AgfaSuperSolinette #AgfaCamera #35mmPhotography #VintageCamera #FoldingCamera #RangefinderCamera #AnalogPhotography #FilmPhotography #ClassicCamera #CameraHistory
