    If I may be so bold--your scanning technique is washing out your images. The scanner is reading the sprocket holes as pure black and is lightening everything else to compensate. You have to override the scanner's auto exposure setting to get the real image. How you do it depends on your scanner an the scanning software that you use. Usually it's a matter of using the cropping box to select just the image w/o sprockets, preview, lock exposure, re-select the whole image an then scan.
