La série Escape exprime, autour de huit photographies argentiques prises sur le vif, le désir d’adolescents rencontrés au Maroc de quitter l’Afrique pour l’Europe. Ces images ont été réalisées au Maroc, dernière base africaine avant l’ultime traversée de la Méditerranée vers l’Espagne. La Mer Méditerranée est représentée par un mur, l’air, un pont ou une porte... séparant deux espaces: Celui qui est connu et l’ailleurs. Instantané où ni avant, ni après existe. Temps vidé d’attache. Qui ne s’est pas assis devant la mer, sans se demander ce qu’il y avait de l’autre coté, derrière l’horizon. Huit images pour un envol vers l’inconnu. La mer est leur horizon, le ciel leur seule limite
Le sable s’incruste dans leur peau
N’oublie pas qui tu es, n’oublie pas d’où tu viens, n’oublie pas où tu vas.
Vole, cours, vis : vite libère toi !
Alors, tout devient léger, tout redevient possible :
le soleil ne brûle plus, il réchauffe
le sel ne tiraille plus, il pimente
les corps n’encombrent plus, ils se délient
Tantôt alanguis, tantôt aux aguets
Tantôt allongés, enracinés sur la plage,
Tantôt virevoltant, tendus vers les cieux,
Qu’importe
Le regard porte sur l’horizon : du bleu à l’infini, du blanc un peu, du blond parsemé de brun, Du noir et blanc pour éblouir les couleurs

But it was itching to do that on film. And I chose the best weather and light. The only problem, I can only hold one camera at a time. And you have to make it all right...

After 7 weeks on sea, we arrived back at Port Louis, Mauritius, the clesest harbour. Container are lifted down to shore. Partly with instruments but also specimen and probes of the scientific journey. A sort of Happy Arrival
