Set from 'The Merchant of Venice' (2004)

These are scanned prints from my days as a film-set painter/carpenter. I worked on seven productions between 1991 and 2004, when Luxembourg was quite a popular location for small- to medium-budget movies, thanks mostly to tax incentives offered by the government there. I will always cherish the memories I have of those experiences. The work was long, hard, dirty and sometimes pretty dangerous, but it was also very creative, fantastic fun, and there was a lot of partying and general madness happening both on and off set - plus I got to meet and work with so many incredible people. Great memories indeed! The shot shown here is of a massive Venice set we recreated in Luxembourg for the movie 'The Merchant of Venice', which starred Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons and Joseph Fiennes.

Note the ice on the canal - we worked right through the winter on this set.

Lovely peek behind the scenes! While you were making these sets, I was working as a movie operater in a tiny theatre. I showed both the Mechant of Venice (don't remember what I thought of it) and Shadow of the Vampire (I loved that film!).
