Megurin Bus (Ueno, Tokyo)

3

Megurin Bus is not only for local residents right now, though many tourists use this for being convenient and cheap.

The Megurin Bus is a community bus that runs through Shitamachi: Ueno, and Asakusa in Tokyo. The route, which is divided into the north, south, east, and west sections of Ueno takes you through some of the oldest and most historic areas in Tokyo. Along the way you’ll find narrow alleys jammed with tiny old shops and homes in this nostalgic part of the city. The exterior and the interior of the tiny Megurin Bus has an antique design which adds to the feeling of being in old Tokyo.

The bus is mainly used by the local residents, but lately the amount of tourists using the bus has been steadily increasing. This is due, in part, not only for its convenience, but also to the one day all you can ride 100 yen bus pass. We used the Megurin Bus to take us around Ueno, Yanaka, Nezu, and Asakusa in Shitamachi on our one day trip within Tokyo.
