Sarah Longworth: Scottish Landscapes with the Lomo'Instant Square

We talked to UK based wedding photographer Sarah Longworth about her experience shooting a wedding in Scotland with the Lomo'Instant Square.

Hello Sarah, how have you been?

I’ve been very well, although a little chilly up here in the snowy North of England.

You've been testing out the Lomo'Instant Square how have you ben getting on with it?

I haven’t done much instant photography before so there was a slight learning curve for me at first, adjusting the exposure and getting a good feel for the camera. I’d say the LISQ is pretty intuitive and after a little time practising I was up and running.

What did you choose to shoot?

I travelled to The Isle of Skye to photograph a wedding elopement at The Black Shed. This was a styled shoot organised by Nicola Dixon with a fabulous team of creatives involved. This shoot was the perfect chance for me to test the Lomo'Instant Square, away from the pressure of a real wedding and in a beautiful setting. Although it was windy and very cold, we were lucky with some bright sunny weather which brought out the stunning colours of the Scottish landscape.

What do you think is the appeal of shooting instant?

It pushed me out of my comfort zone and I had to slow down a little and change my approach with the Lomo'Instant Square, and I really enjoyed this. I really loved the tones of the film, perhaps even more than I was expecting. The results feel really unique. As a wedding photographer I love the idea of being able to give my couple a little memento of the day in form of an instant photograph, so I’m really considering making this part of my permanent kit.

Any tips for people wanting to use this camera?

The camera performed well for me in a range of different light conditions but I’d say at first think carefully about your shot beforehand and make the best use of the available light so as not to waste film. For me this was the only real challenge, otherwise I would say experiment and have fun. I’m looking forward to trying the camera out again and experimenting more with the multiple exposure settings and other creative options.
