Bare Flesh: Ren Hang (NSFW)

2

Photographer Ren Hang challenges his audience's perspective and perception on nudity with an oeuvre much dedicated to creating art and composition with the human body. The Beijing-based photographer is known for his incredibly unique and cohesively-stylized nude portraiture.

We asked him what inspires him in his work. Uncannily, much about his photography and his style are already disclosed in his terse words: "the boring-ness of life", he told Lomography Magazine.

His nudes, organized and cleverly composed, are made up of the things and ideas that Ren sees as mundane and subtle. With a penchant for geometry and constant use of the human figure and its body parts, Ren also finds the human body as the most realistic and relatable subject in photography.

Happiness -- his own and theirs -- are essential to Ren's work process.

There seems to be little room for intentional eroticism. In Ren's oeuvre, performance becomes one with photography. The people in his portraits can often be seen posing in such mindful, gymnast-like manners; the body transforms into photographic elements instead, blending into the photograph.

Hence, the figure itself becomes a work of performative art.

Especially like the use of the nude forms as a landscape topography visual metaphor.
