Building the Konstruktor. A short film and a short tipster too.

A few tips followed by a short flick. Here I show my assembly of the Konstruktor through the wonder of Stop Motion. The build itself took about 3 hours, condensed here into a minuscule 30 seconds. I do however have some tips for the Konstruktion of your Konstruktor:

1: Follow the instructions. I made the mistake of getting a bit too ahead of myself a few times during the build, this meant getting to what I thought was a fully built camera, turning it around and noticing the tripod screw thread was nowhere to be seen. Once you think you’ve done everything on a page, re-read it just to make sure.

2: Give yourself some space. I had a large table to use so I could undo the box and set out all the pieces on the table before starting; this means that rather than losing screw S4 in your stationary pot or piece A21 down your floorboards you know that everything you need is right in front of you. I also recommend placing a white sheet over your workspace before you start so even the tiniest piece of equipment is still visible.

3. Give yourself some light. I chose to build in the lightest room of the house whilst it was quite sunny, this meant I had good visibility for all necessary pieces. When you’re trying to screw something in to some parts of the camera it can get quite intricate and have low visibility as all the parts are black, this is why having a lot of light around you is important. Having a desk light over your shoulder helps even further for the particularly fiddly parts.

4. Don’t rush. Trying to be quick will only mean losing small pieces and breaking bits when you try and pull them out of the plastic caging, there’s no hurry. Anyway, why would you want to rush? The whole reason you’ve bought a Konstruktor is to BUILD it so take your time and you’ll be shooting sooner than you think.

So without further ado, here is my build…
