Ernst Telman (Ernst Thälmann)

Monument Ernst Telman - German anti-fascists and the chairman of the German Communist Party - was opened in Moscow (1986), in the year marking the 100th anniversary of his birth. The monument stands on the square named in his honor, next to the metro station "Airport" on Leningradsky Prospekt.

The monument - sculptor Vladimir and Valentin Artamonovs and architect VA Nesterov.

Telman sculpture is made in the traditional Soviet monumental art revolutionary spirit: on the pedestal is a figure with masculine features, in ordinary clothes and outstretched arm with fist weighty. That is represented by an image of the Communist.

Some sources reported that the opening was attended by the then leader of the Socialist Germany (GDR) Erich Honecker.

In the first years after the Soviet Union collapsed in Russia, a wave of demolition of monuments dedicated to the revolutionary leaders as the country of the Soviets, and foreign representatives.

A similar fate awaited the monument to Ernst Telman in Moscow, and the monument was only thanks to the public to defend. The argument was the fact that the Thälmann was not just a communist leader and an ardent fighter against fascism is gaining strength, which has brought so much trouble.

Ernst Thalmann (1886-1944) - the leader of the German Communists, one of the main political opponents of Hitler.
